Keeping our eyes on the Father in the face of fear.

Recently my fear’s been triggered by the Yellowstone super volcano. I overheard someone talking about how they’re predicting it could go off soon.
That would be bad.
Our home is not close enough to never know what hit us and not far enough to be safe. I start thinking maybe those extreme preppers have it right. I search the web for all we need if we want to survive. We are WAY behind on the prepping game. I wonder if I should leave my kids at home. Ever. What if it went off while they were alone? Maybe we should move.
I can literally make myself nauseous with fear.
I’m sure you have your own triggers. Perhaps I’ve just added to them?
Fear causes our eyes to dart around looking for ways to control our world and protect against suffering. But some things we cannot prep for. They are too big.
As children of the Almighty, we do not have to be ruled by fear. We can have peace now and prep our hearts to endure whatever may come.
“My heart is not proud, Lord,
my eyes are not haughty;
I do not concern myself with great matters
or things too wonderful for me.
But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content.
Israel, put your hope in the Lord
both now and forevermore.”
Psalm 131:1-3 New International Version
Our freedom from fear isn’t in extreme prepping or denying how precarious this life can be. Our hope lies in the good heart of our Daddy and His promise to stay close getting us through everything. He invites us to let Him worry about the volcanoes, look deeply into his eyes and reach to Him for our peace in an uncertain world.
I’m reminded of how teachers catch the attention of distracted kids. They say, “1-2-3, eyes on me” and the kids respond with “1-2, eyes on you.”
Listen. Can you hear the Father? “1-2-3 eyes on Me.” Precious Child of God, how will you respond?
