“And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.”
Galatians 4:6-7 English Standard Version (ESV)
It’s an idyllic moment on a hot summer day in Chicago. A new baby nestles in the arms of her father. It’s his first born, and he and his wife have just started their family. There’s a sense of newness, a joy filled with hopes and dreams of their future together with their children.
The baby is unaware of what’s going on in the world around her. However, there is a lack of anxiety in her expression. She’s in her Daddy’s large arms. She is secure and feels loved.
Our Father in heaven loves us with the same joy of a father with a new baby. He’s crazy about us, and his love never diminishes. His love is always like that fresh beginning.
He desires a relationship with us that goes beyond earthly love. It’s more than friendship; he desires to adopt us and give us his gifts and blessings, even when we don’t deserve it.
No matter where our life takes us, that never changes.
“The eternal God is your dwelling place,
and underneath are the everlasting arms.
And he thrust out the enemy before you…”
Deuteronomy 33:27 ESV
He gave us the law to keep us safe, and to teach us how to be wary for the enemy. He gave us his son, Jesus Christ, whose death and resurrection assures us of eternal life in Heaven. He sent the Holy Spirit to counsel and comfort us.
With those wonderful gifts, we can walk through life with a certainty that, no matter what happens, God is always here.
“How sweet to hold A new born baby,
And feel the pride And joy he gives;
But better still The calm assurance
That child can face uncertain days because he lives.”
