How Great is God’s Forgiveness

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!” Psalm 51:1-2 English Standard VersionÂ
I don’t know how you feel about snow, but I absolutely love it. It makes everything feel new and fresh. A good snowfall makes me want to slow down, take a step back, and relax. Another thing I love about snow, it covers up the brown, dried up, grass and gives us a beautiful white blanket to look at instead.
That is a little bit like what God does for us in His forgiving our sins. When Christ died on the cross, our sins were nailed to him. When we come to Him in repentance, He covers all of our ugly failures and sins, puts them out of sight, and in its place covers us with his beautiful mercy and grace. Yes, as long as we live on this earth we will continue to sin, but Christ in His boundless mercy is prepared to remove that sin like snow covers the dead grass.
Christ’s forgiveness for us is unfathomable. He took what was broken, ugly, and sinful and made us into something beautiful in Himself. His forgiveness is unceasing. We should be infinitely grateful for the never ending grace and mercy of our God. So, if you don’t like the snow, maybe this devotion will help you to find some beauty in it. Christ in His mercy has made us white as snow, covering all of our transgressions.
“Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 English Standard Version
