Feasting on Christ
We all have favorite foods, meals, and delicious treats that we enjoy. Oftentimes the term “foodie” is used to describe those people that seem to relish and enjoy different menu items. Growing up in Texas, the staples were barbeque, Mexican food, Tex Mex, then you topped it off with sweet tea. I hope you are getting hungry!
Today’s image is of my favorite food (so far) that I have found in Hawaii. I know it may be surprising that it isn’t seafood, or native Hawaiian food, or even the Asian pacific fusion dishes that seem to be everywhere. Instead, it is “tasty chicken” and can be ordered at a bowling alley! It has a secret sauce which you dip in sweet soy sauce, garlic and chili flakes. I could eat it every day!
Now we all know that we can’t eat our favorite foods or favorite meals every day. Chances are it wouldn’t be very healthy! There is what we like and there is what is healthy, and most times, they are very different.
I believe that that is true when it comes to our spiritual appetite: There is what we like and what is best for a healthy relationship with God. We may enjoy that feel of a crowded church or an emotionally stirring sermon. We may be excited to hear amazing music and experience powerful worship, but we may not get those things EVERY time.
What you will get is God’s Word of truth that points to Jesus as our Savior! It may seem like a “peanut butter and jelly” spiritual meal that isn’t all that special. But it has it where it counts: We don’t need to add to the beautiful Gospel of Jesus. It is more than enough just as it is!
One of the most eloquent ways we read the Gospel is in John chapter three:
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
John 3:16-17 English Standard Version
My prayer for you today is that you have a well-rounded diet of the spiritual variety. The dishes include daily prayer, reading scripture, serving others and connecting to other believers in meaningful ways. I know that a balanced meal will serve you well and promote a healthy walk with God!
