Just a Taste…

“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him.”
Psalm 34:8
Friends of ours, from New York, recently sent us a box of goodies from “The Big Apple.” As you can see, this is a real “Taste of New York!”
It didn’t take us long to start sampling from the goodies. It only took a “taste,” and we could not stop ourselves.
The Lord is like that, too.
If you but “taste” of God’s goodness, you will be hooked, and you will want more and more and more. Just a taste of God’s mercy and grace in His Word, just a sampling of the love of Jesus, of His forgiveness and the peace that comes from Him, will have you hooked.
As we “read, mark, learn, and inwardly digest” God’s promises and His mercy, we will grow ever closer to Him and more mature in our thinking. As we taste of God’s goodness, nothing else can ever satisfy us. After we taste of the Lord Jesus, of His love poured out upon the cross, of His Spirit convicting and empowering us, we wonder how we ever thought anything of this world could nourish us.
As Peter says, we are “like newborn babies, craving the pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good!” Nothing else can satisfy us, grow us, or make us truly fulfilled, but the Lord and His Word.
“O give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good, and His mercy endures forever!” Amen.
