“Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.”
Psalm 119:105 New International Version

Tillamook Head is a lighthouse built far out to sea on a deserted and often storm blasted rock.  It lighted the way for countless ships to find safe passage past the treacherous rocks off the Oregon coast.  It was built at great cost and maintained with much sacrifice.

“God’s Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” It directs me and corrects me and instructs me and trains me, that I might avoid dangerous and destructive temptations and wrong turns that the devil uses to turn me from God’s ways.  As I follow God’s ways I am saved and grow in God’s grace in Christ Jesus.

And God’s Word was created at great cost and maintained with much sacrifice.  The cost?  The death of God’s own Son up on the cross!  The sacrifice?  The constant everyday reading and meditating on God’s Word is the small sacrifice of time we make daily so that the Scripture might live in our hearts and speak to us.

And like the lighthouse, the cost of creation and sacrifice is well worth the saving of many lives!  Thank God for His Word that lights our way!

“God’s Word is our great heritage
And shall be ours forever;
To spread its light from age to age
Shall be our chief endeavor.
Through life it guides our way,
In death it is our stay.
Lord, grant, while worlds endure,
We keep its teachings pure
Throughout all generations.”
