We Always Knew it!

Precious, isn’t she? Playing in the dirt made her piggies a little dusty, but her grubbiness hardly matters. She knows who she is:
a princess.
Many a female heart is born with these hidden hopes: to be lovely, desired, and to discover she is royalty.
Recently there has been a healthy push-back against old Disney ideas. Our girls need to be instilled with independence and strength. They need to know their own value apart from attaining a certain body type or attracting a prince. We’ve also been hearing that real princesses don’t need a savior. They can save themselves, thank you very much! However, most women still want to be madly loved and pursued by a handsome prince. We want to be worth risking death for. We want to be chosen, wooed, and a cherished bride. There is something gospel-ish hidden in these desires. True, having a Disneyfied expectation for any human relationship is unhealthy and even dangerous. Yet, if we are daughters of God the Most High King, then what we desire is true. As women we have a unique ability to grasp the beauty of the following verses.
Let us be full of joy and be glad. Let us honor Him, for the time has come for the wedding supper of the Lamb. His bride has made herself ready. She was given clean, white, fine linen clothes to wear. The fine linen is the right living of God’s people.
Revelation 19:7-8
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 1 Peter 2:9-10 New International Version
The sweetest part of this picture is that this darling had just recently been adopted. No longer an orphan, but a daughter, chosen and dearly loved; she is Cinderella. And so are all of us together as the Church.
It doesn’t matter how grubby we are, we know the Truth. We were worth dying for and now we have His mercy. Orphans no more, we are sons and daughters of the King; the chosen Bride of Christ, clothed in the white robes of His righteousness and the good works He has created us to do. And now we await our Prince of Peace with a deep longing, for it’s not quite happily ever after yet. But, we know “someday our Prince will come” again on a white horse and sweep His Bride off her feet to the great heavenly wedding!
Praise Him! It’s all true – as so many little girls knew all along.
