A Strong Place

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
Psalm 46:1 New International Version

This is a picture of the carport I am currently building with enormous 6 x 8 inch posts buried in 5 feet of concrete. The structural engineer felt we needed a really strong foundation, maybe a ridiculously strong foundation for a carport! We have even joked that if we ever have a hurricane, we will go chain ourselves to the carport posts and we will be safe!

You need a safe place, a strong place, a refuge, a fortress in this life. I have just spoken with another believer who is struggling to find a permanent place to live and work and rest. A place where he can know his neighbors and send down deep roots and build a strong foundation.

In this world, no matter what the building may be, no matter how strong a foundation we build, there is no permanent, unchanging place. The only ever present help in trouble is God. In the Lord, we find our refuge and strength and help in the time of trouble. There is much trouble in this life and only in the Lord Jesus do we find truth and grace that never changes.  Everything goes away in this world, but the promises of God are true and never changing and never fail us.

You and I need a port in the storm, a fortress in the battle, a firm place in the swamp. Although nations may come and go, although family and friends may desert us, although we may lose all things in this life, the Lord will never leave us nor forsake us. Trust in His unfailing love, His strong Word, His eternal truth. For the Lord has promised that He will deliver us from all our troubles and His foundation will hold firm.

Trust Him!
