A Veil

By Katy Mariotti

The Glory of the Lord

“But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 2:16-18, English Standard Version

If you have ever been to Colorado Springs, Colorado, you know that Pikes Peak is the jewel of the city.  It stands over the town and even though I’ve lived in this area most of my life, I’m still stunned by its beauty when I see it.  On this particular day, I had to grab a photo because the clouds seemed to form a veil over the mountain.  I could see its splendor underneath, but it was mostly hidden.

The mysteries of God can seem like a veil sometimes, like we cannot fully see the majesty underneath.  But this passage in 2 Corinthians tells us that when we “turn to the Lord, the veil is removed.”  Jesus gave us that gift.  And when we get to behold the glory of the Lord, we’re promised freedom and transformation.  I am thankful today for the freedom that faith gives us!
