After the Bomb Goes Off

The state of Colorado is on fire. Our forests are burning out of control. Homes are being reduced to ashes. Lives are being changed forever. Some of the fires have started from natural causes, others from human error, and at least one appears to have been set deliberately. It is as if bombs have exploded everywhere.

Black Forest Regional Park, Black Forest, Colorado

The Colorado Springs community has seen its fair share of fires. It was five years ago when the most destructive fire in Colorado history raged north of Colorado Springs, not far from my home. I’m compelled to take pictures of the devastation from the Black Forest fire and its recovery. As I take these pictures, there has been a constant appearance of the moon over this fire plundered forest.

The speck in the right hand corner is not a dust spot, but the moon. Day in and day out, the moon continues to reflect the sun’s light in all its phases.

Is there life after the bomb goes off?

Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands. They will perish, but you remain forever; they will wear out like old clothing. You will change them like a garment and discard them. But you are always the same; you will live forever.
Psalm 102:25 New Living Translation

The Psalmist knows that God is in control of all things. Nature passes away, it is discarded as a garment. However, God remains the same.

God’s character will never change, no matter what bomb has gone off in your life. His steadfast love has been sealed for you in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Even though you may experience the dark night of your soul, He can be trusted.

Yes, we live in a sinful world, but sin has been conquered in Christ. He will always be the constant in our lives.
