Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Matthew 28:19-20 English Standard Version
He is Risen! Alleluia! I started thinking about those days following His resurrection. He appeared to a handful of named disciples and followers. Then, Paul shares that He appeared to more than five hundred at one time. His message, for those taking up their crosses and following, was clear.
Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.
Mark 16:15 ESV
Commission can be interpreted as instructions, a command or even a duty. If we dissect it a bit further, we see that it also creates: co-mission. So, we have been given very clear instructions and we know we are not alone in carrying out our most imperative task. The verbs Jesus uses are charged with action: Go, make, proclaim, baptize, teach.
I know we often get in our own way when it comes to sharing the message. We have to keep in mind that, though we are the hands and feet now, He is the one at work. The Lord equips us for what He calls us to; and the spirit is perpetually at work. And just like He said, He is always with us. We don’t have to fear or doubt or wonder. Furthermore, His Word never returns void and always accomplishes what He pleases. Our job is to continuously abide in Him–seeking with all our heart. He will initiate the growth and the plans he has. Those good works and aligned desires will be revealed…right on schedule.
Lord, help us remember what we are here to do. Thank you for giving us life through the death of your son. Help us to go, proclaim and teach. Amen.
