This beautiful mansion is the Rosemount Museum in Pueblo, Colorado. It was the home of John Thatcher (a successful businessman and banker), his wife Margaret, and their family for many years. As was customary, John and Margaret had quite a few servants. They also had a nanny, Maggie Burns, to help raise their six children. The family grew to love their nanny. When the children had grown, John and Margaret did not want Maggie to leave their employment so they made her head of household over their servants. When Maggie retired from her service to the Thatchers, they invited her to their home, for dinner, at least three times a week. When Maggie passed away, she was buried in the family’s plot in Roselawn Cemetery. Even though she was a servant in their household, she was considered a member of the family.
“God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son.”
Ephesians 1:5-6 New Living Translation
It’s unusual for a lowly servant to be considered a member of the family. Yet God adopted us lowly sinners into His family through the death and resurrection of His son, Jesus Christ. He loved us so much that He gave the life of His only Son to die for us! He gives us a home with Him and a purpose at every stage of our lives, no matter our life’s circumstances. Because of His greatest gift, we will share a great banquet feast with Him and are blessed to be forever His honored child.
“We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us.”
Romans 8:23 New Living Translation
Live for Him and prepare for His return as though you are the true sons and daughters of Christ, because you are!
