I have frequently been accused of not noticing things directly in front of me. There are friends that believe if two hundred years ago I had been walking in the arid lands of Arizona I might have fallen right into the Grand Canyon if they were not with me to point it out. Are there any other daydreamers out there who spend so much time in their own heads that they miss the beauty in front of them without the help of others?
Perhaps you are the type of person who notices the blatantly obvious. You would stop suddenly throw out your arm in front of me and declare, “Wow, that’s a huge hole in the ground!” Or are you the one who would stand in awe of the multiple colors within each layer of rock, pointing out all of the stripes, and declaring, “Oh look! It’s like the cliffs are wearing skirts!” Of course we need the friend who’ll tell us those pretty stripes are caused by layers of rock carved out by the Colorado River over time. She’ll point out the limestone, sandstone, shale, schist and fossils. She’ll know what is sedimentary, igneous or metamorphic and how each part was formed. Maybe you are the poet who forms your feelings into words.
“O come, let us sing for joy to the LORD,
Let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving,
Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms.
For the LORD is a great God
And a great King above all gods,
In whose hand are the depths of the earth,
The peaks of the mountains are His also.
The sea is His, for it was He who made it,
And His hands formed the dry land.”
Psalm 95:1-5 New American Standard Bible
No matter how you experience the world in front of you let it lead you to worship the One God who created this world and everything in it. Remember Him and fill your mouth with praises.
