“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!'” Romans 10:14-15 English Standard Version
Kiddos frequently operate sans filter, don’t they? They speak their beautiful little minds and pose millions of questions each day. Our daughter, much like her mother, has learned to sing her thoughts out loud. One thing I’ve noticed — that Jesus clearly adores about little children — is their ability to speak, ask and pray unabashedly. They aren’t concerned about who they may offend or how they sound. It’s inspiring. We should be taking notes.
In this current landscape of tiptoeing around feelings, losing friends/family over truth speaking and fear of repercussions, we too often mute or even silence our faith talk. I remember a day my little girl came home from a play date and very nonchalantly shared a witnessing story. Her friend had been in trouble and she gently reminded her, “God forgives you when you mess up.” Her friend’s response was, “He does?!” To which my girl quickly reassured her, “He does.” As people a little more “seasoned” in our faith, we probably want there to be a bit more about repentance, humility and contrition. But I love the simplicity here. Faith like a child.
Beautiful feet. That’s the description of those who share the good news with others. Whether those feet fit in the teeniest shoes, the fanciest footwear…or, no shoes at all, we are called to preach so others may hear and be drawn by Him to believe.
