Before the Show

Preparing for Worship

I absolutely love going to concerts. I love the atmosphere, the people, and the entire vibe. Before the show happens, there is a lot of work that goes into crafting the experience.

Workers are diligent to set up the stage, the lighting, and run all the cords for power. It is a big job, but when it is done correctly, it makes the concert an incredible experience. Even once all the set up is complete, the band will do a “sound check”. A sound check is a test of the sound equipment and instruments to ensure that the sound is good and that any technical issues are addressed.

The photo for consideration is a simple sound check. I think for fun they hit one of the main lights and the picture looks amazing. Beams of light blasting in every direction, and you can almost lose sight of the lone musician strumming the guitar.

I wouldn’t describe a worship service as a show, but I do think there is a connection to be made: If it takes a lot of work before the show to get ready for the show, then it should take a lot or work to get ready for worship. In church, we are not the audience that shuffles in and hopes for a good performance. No, we are the ones who are up on stage, so to speak, and God Himself is the one who receives the praise and worship.

Do you do work to prepare for worship? Do you pray that God would be honored by your worship? Do you pray for the musicians and the worship leaders? Do you pray, sing and listen carefully?

In Hebrews 12:28-29 we read,

“Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe,  for our God is a consuming fire”.
English Standard Version

May God give us the desire to prepare for worship, one that glorifies Him and celebrates the gift of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ!
