What is out there?

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”
Matthew 6:34
Have you ever stood on the beach and wondered what was beyond the horizon? What might be “out there” just beyond what you can see?
That sort of fascination with what we cannot see beyond our vision extends into wondering what will happen next in our lives. Will tomorrow bring joy or sorrow, laughter or tears, love or heartbreak? A person can become obsessed with troubling about tomorrow, about trying to control the future by worrying and fretting.
Without a trust in God in our lives we can live in perpetual fear about what will happen in the future, a sense of foreboding about tomorrow. Even though it does us no good, our fear drives us to worry and stew about what may happen. Even though it is not logical nor healthy to worry, we fall easily into the trap of trying to “see beyond the horizon.”
Trusting in God as our Savior and Provider cuts through our fear and foreboding. Knowing that the Lord has loved me in Christ Jesus and will continue to love me unto eternity takes the fear out of my life and comforts me even when I cannot see into the future, even when worry wants to overpower me. Admitting that I am not in control of my future nor my present circumstances and placing my trust in the God who loves me puts me back into living in reality and peace.
Or as Saint Paul says, “If the Lord is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but gave Him up for us all – how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” (Romans 8:31) My faith in my Savior gives me peace every day, even beyond the horizon.
