The Eyes of a Child

As a child I remember hearing a nursery rhyme:
Hey diddle diddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
The cow jumped over the moon;
The little dog laughed
To see such sport,
And the dish ran away with the spoon
I remember being caught up by how silly and nonsensical the whole scene was. But especially surprising to me was the notion of a cow jumping over the moon.
Today’s image for consideration has peacocks standing on the roof of a building that has a painted image of the sun on the side. In other words, birds above the sun!
I admit, birds belong in the air in a way that cows do not, but here is what I want to emphasize today: Try and see the world through the eyes of a child. It may seem silly and nonsensical, but there is something refreshing for the soul!
In Matthew 18, Jesus says,
“Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven”.
English Standard Version
Jesus commends the faith of little ones many times in the pages of the Bible. Isn’t it odd that in this world we encourage children to be “seen and not heard”, and we often minimize their contributions?
Come to think of it, I have seen a bird above the Son before:
“And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
Matthew 3:16-17, ESV
God sees you as His child, and He loves you! So let’s be bold to live as His children and see this world in that light.
