Rest from Life’s Struggles
And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!”
Revelation 14:13 English Standard Version
Holy Saturday, as we call this day between Good Friday and Easter, is a day of rest, not our rest, but the rest of all who remained faithful to Jesus and now rest from their labors. It is a day that we pause to think about our faithful loved ones. I think of my father and mother, my sisters, and the faithful people that I have known.
Life is a struggle. We labor our way through the days, months, and years, this side of the grave. But those who died in Jesus rest from this labor, a toil they will never know again. They are safe in the presence of the Lamb who was slain for them, for us!
This is last day of Lent. Tomorrow, we celebrate, but today we remember. We remember the Church Triumphant as we continue to live as the Church Militant.
