Nestled in His strength.

I still can’t believe they convinced my youngest daughter to get into a gondola that would take us across a 1,200 foot chasm!
Ever since I forced her to take a picture with me on a balcony when she was 5 she has been terrified of heights. (And the mother of the year award goes to . . .) So what gave her the guts to step into a small, transparent bucket that would soon be suspended over The Royal Gorge?
First, her uncle Tom shared with her that he was also afraid of heights. He challenged her to be brave with him and promised to sit next to her. Second, her Daddy said that he would hold her hand and that if she needed to she could bury her face in his chest. Third, she had her little bear that her cousin had just gotten for her. He was also “scared of heights” and needed her to comfort him. So into the gondola ventured this brave girl. She nestled between her uncle and her dad and clutched her bear which she named “Courage” right after she touched down on the other side of the canyon. She was proud of herself for her bravery and thrilled to discover that she enjoyed the whole adventure!
Are there places God is inviting you to go with Him that terrify you? Have you found it difficult to summon the courage to step into the gondola with Him? Like my little girl, He will hem you in securely and hold your hand. Christ knows your apprehension and is empathetic. He understands what it’s like to be scared about the future (Luke 22:42-44) and doesn’t mind if you bury your face in His chest.
If you dare to venture out, you may be surprised by the strength He gives you. You may even look back over the canyon, rejoice over the adventure, and delight in comforting others with the story of God’s strong hand seeing you through to the other side.
“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
Philippians 4:13
“The Sovereign Lord is my strength; He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”
