God’s Will Be Done

We’ve probably all known people whom we assume will never break; their strength appears bullet proof. When they do break, it’s unnerving and, personally, at times when I have witnessed someone breaking, I wanted them to stop breaking and go back to the way they were. The other side of this thought, however, is that brokenness may be for our own good.
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.” Psalm 51:17 ESV
Instead of mourning someone’s breaking point, maybe we should celebrate that a change is possibly beginning to occur. Cheering and supporting the person through the transformation is how they can be encouraged when things aren’t going well.
“…but they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 ESV
The saying that God will only give us what we can handle is not true. God will give us more than we can handle to give us an opportunity to reach toward Him. If we don’t need Jesus in our lives, why would we ever move toward Him?
Today marks 15 years since my mom passed away. I was 33 years old at the time, and her death was the catalyst for me to become a Christian. It was through her death that I experienced the biggest breaking of my life. Her death was the wheat seed that caused me to begin reaching toward Jesus. My life has never been the same since.
“Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” James 1:2-4 ESV
Many people will go through multiple breakers in their life, and they don’t change. The chance to turn toward God is given to us over and over, but it’s always up to us if we’ll answer the knock on our hearts.
