Sometimes believing is seeing.

“I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:
“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory.”
At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.”
Isaiah 6:1-4 New International Version
The sun is just breaking over the horizon. In our neighborhood it comes with the sounds of roosters crowing. My imagination runs wild with the size of the solar system, and thinking about how there is an eight minute delay between the light that I see and its departure from the sun. Could that light be the train of the Lord’s robe filling His temple? How big is His temple anyway? How long is that train? What is it made of? Back to the sunrise and the light spreading onto the prairie. It’s enough to make a person fall down in worship… that is, if we can see it for what it really is.
Isaiah was given a vision of God in His temple. No imagination necessary, he saw into the throne room of God and heard the majestic praise of the angels. It was a scene for which most of us will have to wait. But in the meantime, if we can believe it, we can catch a glimpse into the heavenly realm just by watching closely. “The whole earth is full of His glory.” It takes some practice, but if this statement of the angels is to be believed, then we ought to be able to see Him in everything. He ought to be clear everywhere.
So the difficulty is on me, not Him. It’s hard to see sometimes because it’s hard to believe.
Lord, I want to believe, help my unbelief. Give me eyes to see Your glory.
