Remembering God’s Promises

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 New International Version
Last week, my kids went back to school—a time that can only be described as chaotic. Lost folders, last-minute homework, and forgotten backpacks marred what I had hoped would be a smooth transition back into routine. One evening, as we sat in a hot parking lot waiting to meet the soccer coach to retrieve my son’s misplaced backpack, nerves were wearing thin and patience was running out. In my mind, I was readying a long lecture about being more responsible.
But before I spoke, God quietly whispered into my heart: How many times have you forgotten My promises?
The image of my son’s forgotten backpack struck me. Backpacks are meant to carry what we need for the day—books, lunches, supplies. But so often my children forget theirs, and I find myself frustrated. Yet, how often do I “forget my backpack” of faith? How many times do I step into the day without carrying God’s Word, His promises, or the reminder that He walks beside me?
Scripture says: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7). God doesn’t scold us for forgetting; He invites us to hand over our burdens, our distractions, and our failures. Unlike a forgotten backpack, His presence is never misplaced. He meets us in our forgetfulness and offers gentle reminders that His promises are steady even when our routines are not.
The next time I see my kid’s school backpacks lined up by the door, I’ll remember to carry with me what truly matters: God’s unfailing Word and the assurance that He never forgets me.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for Your constant care, even when I forget to lean on You. Forgive me for the times I rush into my day without carrying Your promises in my heart. Help me to hand over my worries, frustrations, and failures to You, knowing that You never forget me. Teach me to walk daily with the confidence that Your Word and Your presence are enough.
