“Rise up, O Lord, in all your power. With music and singing we celebrate your mighty acts.”
Psalm 21:13 New Living Translation
There are 23 occasions in the Bible where God told the Israelites to celebrate the good things that He gave them in their lives. The Passover, Festival of Harvest, Feast of Atonement, Festival of Unleavened Bread, Festival of Trumpets—these are some of the events that lasted several days to a week or more. God wanted Israel to remember and celebrate His goodness to them.
God does many good things in our lives, but do we celebrate those? Do we truly remember the good things that he has done for us? We usually celebrate Christ’s birth at Christmas and his resurrection at Easter, but do you celebrate the day of your baptism? Have you honored the times He rescued you from an overwhelming experience, or for overcoming a darkness within you through His divine providence? Do you celebrate life’s seemingly small victories as well as the monumental ones?
Too often we dwell on the negative things in life, so we don’t feel like celebrating. At times we blame God for not giving us the outcome we hoped for, and we fail to see that His favor and mercy are with us, and what He provided was abundantly best for us. We should celebrate because we have the most amazing loving Heavenly Father!
Ask God to point out all that he has done for you. Respond to His goodness by enthusiastically giving Him thanks and praise. Make it a grand occasion and celebrate your Savior with joy and love!
