“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24 English Standard Version

My husband and I recently celebrated our 15th anniversary. Leading up to it, we knew we were going to do something special because we always do. This year we went and stayed two nights at a hotel in another city, and ate at an amazing restaurant, where we both ordered fun drinks to go with our delicious pasta. What I think neither of us realized until afterwards was how much we needed to take that time to celebrate. To take a minute out of our busy lives, which are currently a bit stressful, and remember how much we enjoy being together and living life together.

Psalm 118 reminds us to rejoice in the day that the Lord has made. If you read the whole psalm, it gives specific reasons that we have to rejoice: how God’s love endures forever, how He is our strength, how He hears us in our distress and is our helper. So even in our daily lives, we can pause and rejoice. The Lord made today, what can you rejoice about? I can thank God for my beautiful family, for the sun shining, for a vacation to look forward to, even for moments of laughter while working.

It is good to take time to celebrate, to acknowledge all that we have been given and to acknowledge the moments when God was there for us even when things were hard. It is such a blessing to know that we have someone who loves us unconditionally, every second, whose love is steadfast and doesn’t wane even when we make mistakes, or even when we’re in such despair that we can’t feel Him there. He is always there, loving us. As it says in Romans:

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 ESV

Take a moment to celebrate the love of Christ, and the day He has given you today!
