The Time is Short…

“What I mean, brothers, is that the time is short.”
1 Corinthians 7:29

It is cherry blossom time again! Whether you are in Washington DC or in Japan, the annual grand showing of the cherry blossoms is beautiful to behold. People travel long distances, and coordinate their vacation time, to try to catch the full splendor of the cherry blossoms.

Unfortunately the timing of the blossoms is unpredictable, and worse the blossoms don’t last long. This has frustrated many would be viewers of the spectacle.

Jesus’ second coming is a lot like that. No one knows when it will occur, and much worse there isn’t much time to get ready. In the middle of the normal rhythm of life Jesus will appear suddenly to take those who believe in Him home, and judge those who have refused to believe in Him. The time is short, very short, or as the Scripture says, “now is the day of salvation”. Jesus warns us to be alert, watch for His coming, and not to be distracted with all the other details of life.

If this is true that there isn’t much time to get ready, then what should we be about in preparation for His coming? First, daily place your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and in His salvation alone. Second, pray continually that He will send many workers into His harvest field that many might be saved. Third, extend every effort, every day, to tell others that through Jesus Christ alone they might be saved.

The time is short! The message is crucial!

Lord, send Your Holy Spirit to enliven in me the desire to tell all people about the hope that lies within me. Lord Jesus, do come soon and may Your people be about Your work when You come. Amen.
