Our majestic proclamation.

In our household, we make it a point to enjoy our evening meal together. We discuss our day, and try to have some sense of normalcy and routine. This can at times pose a challenge with two high-schoolers and a 6th grader, each of whom is involved in multiple sports and activities.
The whole idea is for us to gather as a family and break bread together. It is a bonding experience, and more than an obligation. It keeps the family connected.
In the first letter to the Corinthians, God speaks through Paul to remind us that we were given the gift of Holy Communion, not merely as an obligation of our own faith walk or to simply commune together, but as an active testament to the death and resurrection of Christ.
“For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup,
you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
1 Corinthians 11:26 English Standard Version
This photo was taken at Lutheran Valley Retreat during a men’s gathering that my husband attended with our church. The view at this elevation is awe-inspiring.
The Lord’s Supper was offered on a rustic wooden table, but the majestic mountain in the distance commands all the attention. Likewise, when partaking in the breaking of the bread and drinking of the wine, our focus and purpose should always be on Christ. Paul knew this, and stressed that the motivation for the sacrament has to be Christ’s ultimate sacrifice rather than simply a vague reminder of obligatory faith.
Our family relocated to Colorado this summer. We were drawn back to the mountains. As I gaze upon God’s splendid creations each and every day, I am reminded and reassured that God is amazing, omnipotent and all powerful. He gave Christ so that we may live. With each Lord’s Supper, may I always proclaim Christ crucified.
“He who forms the mountains,
who creates the wind,
and who reveals his thoughts to mankind,
who turns dawn to darkness,
and treads on the heights of the earth—
the Lord God Almighty is his name.”
Amos 4:13 New International Version
