Trusting in God’s Goodness

“I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Psalm 27:13-14 NIV
Numerous enemies were in pursuit of David. He was on the run and hiding in caves as these men sought to kill him. Despite what David is going through, these trials that I can only imagine were both dark and terrifying, he puts his full confidence in God. His faith in God was what carried him through these trials. He trusted in God’s goodness and faithfulness. He leaned into God, completely vulnerable, reliant, and in relationship with His Father.
David believed firmly that he would witness God’s goodness. Not only His mercy and grace in terms of his eternal soul, but faith that he would outlive these trials. He believed that in this life – in the land of the living – David would witness the goodness of the Lord. He trusted that God would deliver him from his enemies that fully intended to take his life.
David believes that God will carry him through this alive, and that God’s glory will be displayed through him. There is a purpose. A purpose that wasn’t apparent at the time. A purpose that required waiting.
“Be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” (v. 14b)
Where in our personal lives can we look to David’s example? In what area or circumstance do you (and I) need to lift our eyes, be strong, take heart, trust in God’s goodness, and wait for our Savior?
“But I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.”
Job 19:25 NIV
