The Artistry of God
“…and have clothed yourselves with the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of its creator”
Colossians 3:10. New Revised Standard Version
I recently attended the Pompeii exhibit at the Arizona Science Center in Phoenix. Among other things, I was taken with the artistry and creativity of those ancient Romans. At the time of Pompeii’s destruction, the art of glass-making there was just three or four generations old. I was impressed by the tremendous artistry those glass-makers achieved in such a short time. It was truly amazing.
I think that human creativity is one of those things that echoes, however imperfectly, God’s own creative propensity. He created the heavens and the earth. He created humankind. He created you. He re-created us in Christ’s work of salvation, ushering in the new creation of the Kingdom of God. The Lord is the creator of this new self that we are in his Kingdom.
The artistry of God? Take a look in the mirror. “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and put a new and right spirit within me( (Psalm 51:10).
