Crying out to God

By Pastor Steve Nickodemus
The Lord Delivers

In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.  Deliver my  soul, O Lord…”

Psalm 120:1-2a English Standard Version

Question: Why do babies cry?  Answer: Because they are in distress and they don’t have any words yet!

What makes you cry?  Sorrow from a death?  Grief over sins and failures?  Pain from attacks of others?  Worry over dire circumstances?

Whatever it is that makes you cry, you may not have words for all the emotions you feel.  But don’t worry, the Lord is gracious and understands our hearts, even when we are unable to express ourselves fully.

And the Lord not only hears us in our distress, but he delivers us… delivers us from sin and every evil that would overtake us.  Jesus cried out to the Father in his distress and was given peace to face death on a cross for you and me.

And because of Jesus facing such distress, we know that the Father hears us when we cry out.  Cry out to the Lord, and he will deliver you!

Lord, deliver us from the evil one and from every evil and distress.  For Jesus’ sake.  Amen.
