Deception is part of the conversation of the Christian faith due to Satan being active on Earth. The devil still influences the mind in a strange way and some find it difficult to determine when they are being influenced by a foreign and illegal body.

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7 New International Version

It’s hard to know how to resist something when you don’t realize you’re being influenced.

“He (the Devil) was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies.”
John 8:44 English Standard Version

“Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,”
1 Timothy 4:1 English Standard Version

We are in later times from when this verse was written. It is wise to be aware that deceitful spirits and teachings of demons exist.

“For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect.”
Matthew 24:24 English Standard Version

“While evil people and impostors will go on from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived.”
2 Timothy 3:13 English Standard Version

Deception is disturbing for some to discuss, but the Bible clearly addresses the issue; therefore, occasionally acknowledging and understanding that deception exists can help us be diligent and vigilant in our Christian walk.
So how do we combat deception and evil spirits? We get to know God so well that we know the nature of Jesus like we would a significant other. It’s so familiar that we can easily determine when something or someone is not of God. This idea is not about looking for a demon behind every bush but acknowledging the supernatural realm so we can increase in wisdom and discernment.
