Wash me, Jesus!

“Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your waves and breakers have swept over me.”
Psalm 42:7
Sometimes we are in a dry, dry, place in our life. A desert place of dryness and loneliness. Even God may seem far away in that place of depression and loneliness. Where shall I go when I am downcast and distressed? Crushed and barren?
In that dry and forsaken place, the Psalmist tells himself, “Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him, my Savior and my God.” When I am dry, I head to the source of water and life. I go into the deep life-giving water of my Baptism. That place where my sins were washed away, and I was given new life. A life in Jesus Christ. The Lord, who never forsakes me, calls unto me there, in the deep pool of His love and grace…the thirst quenching waters of His Word and Spirit.
Are you in a dry and forsaken place right now? A place of grief, sorrow, pain, or brokenness. Are you feeling alone and friendless? Is your soul disturbed and downcast within you?
Put your hope in God. Remember Him who died and rose for you…He who came searching for you to give you life-giving water. Like the woman at the well, Jesus has life-giving water for you. Water that shall flow into you and through you to eternal life. Come to the waterfall of His poured out love. Refresh yourself in His cleansing grace. Find hope, faith, and life in Him, our Lord Jesus, poured out for us. No sin is too deep, no life is too barren, that His forgiving blood cannot cleanse you and give you life.
Come to the water! Come to Jesus!
