“He said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.”
Luke 5:4b New International Version

Simon and the other fishermen had just spent all night fishing and had caught nothing.  But now this Rabbi Jesus wants him to put out into deep water for a catch.  This is the moment that determines all the rest of Simon’s life; will he listen to Jesus’ Word and head out into deep water, or listen to his tired body and stubborn soul and walk away?  We know what Simon did.

Simon listened to Jesus.  He set out for deep water and let down his nets for a catch…. and he caught such a large number of fish that his net began to break.  And Simon fell down at Jesus’ feet and confessed his sinfulness and need for Jesus as his Lord.  And Jesus replied, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.”

Are you at that place in your life where Jesus is calling you to set out for deep waters, that moment where you must trust Him and go?  Are you afraid and tired and stubborn?  Is He calling you and you are wavering between staying safely on shore and heading out to deep water?

Perhaps you are afraid others will laugh at you if you trust Jesus.  Or perhaps you are tired of trusting people who betray you.  Or perhaps you are just stubborn and want to do your own thing and not God’s bidding.

Whatever is holding you back, quit looking at yourself and look at Jesus.  Look at the One who loves you and gave Himself for you.  Look at the scars on His hands and feet.  Do not be unbelieving, but listen to Jesus.

Jesus is calling you to deep waters.  Follow Him and go.  There is a great catch to be had, and a whole new life to which you are called.  Trust Jesus.
