“How many are your works, Lord!
In wisdom you made them all;
the earth is full of your creatures.
There is the sea, vast and spacious,
teeming with creatures beyond number—
living things both large and small.”
Psalm 104:24-25 New International Version
“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.”
Genesis 1:31 New International Version
If you would like an image of a person delighting in God’s creation, in the creatures that he has made, take a toddler to the zoo. We might become complacent as adults, going to zoos numerous times or seeing animals that we have seen before. But to a toddler, this is the coolest thing. They love watching how they move, hearing the sounds they make. They may not love the smells, though.
God delighted in his creation at the beginning. He saw everything and knew that it was very good. This includes all of the earth, the land and the animals, and Adam and Eve. Humanity was made good. Every day, we have the responsibility to delight in Creation like God did at the beginning. The Psalmist shows a way we can wonder at the magnificence of God’s creatures. We can marvel at the animals at the zoo, but we should also marvel at the people he has formed with his own hands. Delighting in Creation means delighting in your family, your children, your spouse, your neighbor. What might this delight look like in your life today?
Praise God for the work of his hands!
