God Always Provides.

Fall has officially arrived, and here in Colorado Springs it has brought the rain. This morning we have a light drizzle and an overcast sky. It feels cold in the house. I want to snuggle up with a book, and a blanket, and hope someone decides to bake cookies. There are many things I need to do, but somehow the drizzle brings out feelings of peace and restfulness. I am reminded by the cold that God’s creation is preparing for the winter that will inevitably arrive. Yet on this drizzly day there are no birds, squirrels, or rabbits outside searching for food. They know that this morning they can rest.

My daughter went out and took this picture in the rain. It’s a good thing the birds are not out looking for food, because the feeder seems to be quite empty. We have neglected our duty to provide for their well being. However, I love seeing the drops of water hanging off of the pine needles. God has not neglected to provide for the plants and animals. I am also certain that He has provided nuts and seeds for them to collect after the rain. He has given rain to keep the flora growing a little longer, so His creatures can eat.

“All creatures look to you
    to give them their food at the proper time.
 When you give it to them,
    they gather it up;
when you open your hand,
they are satisfied with good things.”
Psalm 104:27-28 New International Version

I am glad all creatures look to God instead of me to get their needs met! I confess that I’m not even successful at providing dinner on the family table every day. However, I know that I can always look to the Creator of all Things to provide for me and my children. A huge burden is lifted when I remember that God has promised to meet all our needs!

Father, thank you that you have promised to provide for all of Your Creation, and You never forget to meet all of our needs. Amen.
