“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat,
summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
Genesis 8:22 English Standard Version
This is the view from our master bathroom shower. While it is what I see each morning, my husband’s perspective is slightly different because he is taller, and he can see the whole back yard. My line of sight is limited mainly to the beautiful aspen tree located right outside the window. The master bath is located on the 2nd floor, so I get to witness the wonderful changes the tree experiences throughout each season.
It is spring, so the leaves are beginning to fill in and cover the limbs. The vibrant green reminds me of the constant renewal and assurance that what was dormant is once again alive. I am refreshed by the daily sprouting and growth of the buds.
In summer, this aspen becomes full of green leaves that sway in the warm winds. I am invigorated by the strength and abundance of God’s provisions.
In the fall, I observe beautiful yellow leaves that shine brightly for a few weeks…. only to be blown away by the fierce Colorado winds. Much like facing the trials of our own lives, the strength of the roots determines whether the tree remains intact as its outer luster begins to fall away.
As winter approaches, the tree limbs are bare, and snow begins to cover them. I am sheltered from the cold by the warmth of the house, and am grateful for the physical necessities God gives me to endure the harshness of this life. The tree hibernates, knowing that Spring will once again come to thaw the chill, and growth will continue.
I love my shower’s view because I am daily encouraged that God is not only in charge of the changing seasons in nature, but also within my own life.
“He changes times and seasons; he removes kings and sets up kings; he gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding.”
Daniel 2:21 English Standard Version
