“He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God.”
2 Corinthians 9:10-12 English Standard Version
Flour has been made since prehistoric times. It once was made by hand, the grain ground between stones. Today we mass-produce flour for a variety of uses, but the processes used to make a fine, smooth flour result in lost nutrients. To make up for this, vitamins and minerals are added to replace those depleted by modern milling.
Sometimes life takes a lot out of us. Even when we are actively using our gifts and abilities for God’s purpose, some days can be a grind. We feel pulverized and weak. Our souls need enriching. Where can we find the nourishment we need? In the words of a loving Father and Savior. It’s so easy to stray from spending time in God’s word, even when we are serving His people.
“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
Colossians 3:16 English Standard Version
We were not created to complete our mission alone. It’s hard to be joyful and thankful when your soul lacks the life-giving words of God. We need the strength, encouragement and peace that comes from God’s words to us.
Don’t neglect spending time with God in His word. You will be blessed beyond measure and become even more of a blessing to those you serve. Joy and thankfulness will fill your soul once again.
