Everybody Sing!

Our God is Worthy of Worship

“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing! Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!” Psalm 100:1-4 English Standard Version

When it comes to worship on Sunday morning, whether we sing hymns or contemporary worship songs, we are bringing thanksgiving to the Lord. Some of us don’t sing, maybe because we don’t have the best voice, maybe we are a bit shy, or maybe we sing in a hushed tone to not stand out. All of these reasons are okay. I understand all of them. I myself am very stoic in my expression. However, the Lord our God is worthy of all praise, thanksgiving, and worship! He is our Creator, our Redeemer, and he sustains us throughout this life. We need not be nonchalant, or without care, when we come to worship our God!

Notice all of the exclamation points throughout the passage referenced above. We should be overwhelmed in absolute awe at everything our God has done.  He is the perfect Creator of the entire universe. He created us specially to have relationship with us, and that we may delight and proclaim his glory! He has saved us from ourselves when we could not save ourselves. Jesus Christ came into this world and took upon himself every sin of every person for our sake, so that we may not die but live for eternity in his glorious presence. All we have to do is accept this free gift that he has offered to us, and we are saved. This God, the One True God, is infinitely worthy of praise and thanksgiving.

Therefore, the next time you are in worship, stand with your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, few or many, and joyfully and powerfully proclaim God’s glory, giving Him all thanks and praise.
