Expecting God’s Love Amid the Unexpected

This is the plane that crashed on a street not far from my house last week. It hit a chain link fence, slid across six lanes of road, hit a guard rail, and stopped on a grassy area near Sand Creek. The road was closed while they cleaned up the wreckage and transported one of the three people on board to the hospital. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. They are still investigating why the plane crashed, but I’m sure the pilot, and both passengers, weren’t expecting it to happen.

Unexpected events happen to us all the time. Maybe you’ve never fallen out of the sky, and crashed on a busy street, but I’m sure you’ve experienced injury, heartache, and loss. There may have been nothing you could do to prevent it from happening. There was probably no way you could have seen it coming, or been prepared for it. You found yourself in a proverbial plane crash, had to
deal with the broken wings plus damaged fuselage, and worried that you might never fly again.

No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:37-39 New Living Translation

Fortunately, you have a Lord and Savior who responds immediately to your pleas for help. He is with you every step of the way, sheltering you in overwhelming sadness, comforting you in pain, and encouraging you as you put the pieces of your life back together and continue your journey. He will never let you down, and will never turn you away when you reach out to Him.

You may be separated (just like the wings of this plane) from a loved one, from a job, and from good health, but you can never be separated from God’s love for you! Take comfort in this when the unexpected arrives.
