“The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace and remain at rest.” Exodus 14:14 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition

There is so much in this small verse, let’s break it down.

“The Lord will fight for you.” The Lord will fight your battles. He will stand in your place and go to war for you. He is not only our comforter, he is also our warrior. We are never alone in the battle. Also, we do not fight people; they are not our enemies. We battle against the invisible evil of the world.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 English Standard Version

“And you shall hold your peace.” Hold onto the peace that God gives you; do not let it go. Your peace is your responsibility; do not give it away.

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16 English Standard Version

This verse says peace is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, always and in every situation.

Personally, if I feel I have lost my peace, I stop and reconnect with God and grab onto peace again. The decisions I make and my thought process are much better if I have peace while I’m traversing.

“Remain at rest” is a continuation of “hold your peace.” I don’t know if I’ve ever thought about or heard anyone else consider what it means to remain at rest. Peace is talked about regularly but remaining at rest is more obscure. Rest in the arms of Jesus which is that sweet spot to recover and recharge.

“He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.” Psalm 91: 4 English Standard Version

Keep up the good fight, but let God do the fighting. Hang on to your peace and remain in constant rest. This is a prescription I know I need to follow right now.
