“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 NIV
The God of hope grants us joy and peace. We have this hope which is in God and through God. This hope comes through the promise of God, the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, and the workings of the Holy Spirit.
As we trust in His promise and provision, may we be filled with joy and peace. Joy in knowing that our heavenly home awaits us, that Jesus has prepared a place for us beyond the earth we now walk. Peace as we face trials and fears and uncertainties. Peace in knowing that we have the comfort of the Holy Spirit.
We are filled with this hope which creates joy and peace, that will then overflow beyond our own thoughts and actions. We have this gift to then pour out to others. When those close to us or those we encounter suffer or struggle or doubt, we can overflow with that which God has worked within us.
Hope comes through the Holy Spirit. It cannot be mustered up with our own strength. In times of despair and struggle, we don’t have the power within our own flesh to hope for things we cannot see, feel, and touch. We are weak and we are doubtful by nature. And yet, we know this hope through our Savior. We know this hope and this promise and this truth through God Himself. This hope is our anchor and it is our life raft as we journey through the storms of this life.
“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.”
Ephesians 1:18 NIV
