“I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches.”
Psalm 119:14 New International Version

This cave south of Jerusalem contained one of the greatest riches of all time.  What was found in this cave and others close by it turned out to be one of the greatest archeological finds of all time.  The treasure was found accidentally by a shepherd boy.  Was this precious find gold or silver or gems?

No, what was found were ancient parchments, many of which were copies of the Old Testament.  In this one discovery Biblical textual scholarship was revolutionized.  The Hebrew Bible was found to be trustworthy and authentic in ways that confirmed the faith of many Christians.

For the Word of God, given to us through the Holy Spirit, is of far greater value to a believer than all the gold and riches in the world.  To know God’s Word is to know God’s love in Jesus Christ, sent to earth to save us and all who would believe in Him.  In God’s Word we are given eternal promises and a secure faith that opens heaven itself.

Many people dream of finding great riches, of winning the lottery, or receiving a great inheritance.  But for all those of us who know God’s Word, we have been given riches that money can never buy.  Forgiveness, peace with God, true love and true joy are all found here.  Wisdom and knowledge and true understanding are all discovered here.  And a relationship with a God of mercy and peace in Him is found within the Scriptures’ pages.

Do you want true riches?  Open your eyes and heart to the Word of God, a treasure beyond all measure!  Amen.
