So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2 Corinthians 4:18 English Standard Version
In my very short tenure as a mother, I’ve learned that car convos are the best. More often than not, I’m thankful my seven-year-old cannot see my expressions. One morning before school, we dove right into the heavy stuff. She’s a deep thinker. She asks questions I still don’t want to ask. (Now I get to scramble for answers.) We were discussing a difficult situation for a friend of hers; and my girl’s heart was troubled. She needed answers. She wanted to know the why’s and the plan. I reminded her that God has a plan–to which my favorite response followed:
“Yeah! God does have it all figured out. I don’t. I can’t even make a plan…not even for a word search!”
I love how simplicity and complexity beautifully meet here. We tend to zoom in on the hardships, the challenges and just the everyday rhythms of life–forgetting at times to really see the bigger picture. I found this photo from our trip to Jackson Hole. It was one of those “pull over!” moments. I loved how the old, log structure framed the towering Tetons in the distance. In this particular photo, my lens focused on more of the busy/complex foreground, leaving the mountains a bit blurred and out of focus. I know we can easily slip into a similar scene when it comes to our everyday life. While we might have it all in the frame — following the Lord, leaning on His Word, trusting His promises. We tend to shift our focus in and out, depending on our circumstances. Mostly, we fixate upon what’s right in front of our eyes instead of the outward, upward, eternal focus.
Let’s take intentional time to refocus and remember: God has it all figured out. His will be done in our lives. We trust. We obey. And we fix our eyes on Jesus.
