Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies–in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 4:9-11 ESV
What do you want to be when you grow up? This is a question that we hear from age three to (possibly) age 30. I believe my answer to that at a young age was “a singer.” Oh, how we dream. As we grow, more focus is often placed upon career aspirations and life goals. Education is important, and an income is necessary for this life. Recently though, I’ve been thinking about our “life” work.
What has God called us to do? How has He called us to serve? Life work is intertwined in the everyday. It’s our spiritual walk and the mission field that exists all around us. God pursues — drawing us closer and aligning our hearts with his. It starts at home. We serve, disciple, lead and build up our families. From there, we step boldly into outer circles and then beyond our comfort zones into territory that stretches us. Every day is a day He has made. Every day is an opportunity to share His love. That might look like caring for those in need; serving others in our professions, listening to someone who needs encouragement; volunteering with or supporting a ministry; or maybe just an intentional interaction at the store. Beyond that, we have the all-important task of shining His light and sharing the message. Your life story is powerful. God intended for your story to intertwine with your own ministry. We have a testimony that was meant to be shared. And all of it points to God’s glory.
So I pray that we seek His will in all we do. I pray that we take leaps when the Lord places an opportunity before us to speak boldly in His name. I pray that in everything we do, we bring glory to the Author of our story.
Amen.
