Countless Pardon

“God was reconciling the world to Himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.”
2 Corinthians 5:19a
We love having the pumpkin fields around our new home. We enjoyed seeing them planted, growing, and now waiting to be harvested.
There they stand, thousands and thousands of pumpkins, stretching into the horizon. My wife, Margaret, tried counting just one short row of them and gave up. It was impossible, there were too many to count.
So it is with our sins. When we consider our constant selfishness, pride, and lack of love, our sins run into the thousands in just a few days. When you consider a lifetime of sins, they are countless. They stand like a giant mine field separating us from the holy God.
However, God has decided to do an amazing thing. In our Lord Jesus’ death on the cross, all of these countless sins were placed on Jesus. In Christ Jesus there is complete pardon for every sin you have ever committed. When God looks at you now, He no longer sees a sinner burdened with countless sin, but a saint made holy in Jesus Christ.
We are no longer separated from God by our sins, but in Christ Jesus we are pardoned, reconciled, and made friends with the Father. Though my sins be as numerous as the sand of the sea, the blood of Jesus Christ has pardoned me.
In this pardon of Jesus, count yourself a friend of God. In His resurrection, count yourself alive in Christ and an heir of eternal life. In His mercy for you, count yourself the recipient of all of the eternal riches of God.
Lord Jesus, thank you for dying and rising for me. Thank you that my sins are pardoned, and that I am God’s child. Thank you for Your sacrifice and obedience that has saved me, and set me free for eternity. Amen.
