Fountain of Youth

Aging

I have a child in college and some days I find it hard to believe I’m old enough to experience a child that age. As I age, I have increasing moments of wanting to be young again. The carefree days of high school and college are enviable as I speed toward the next decade.

How do we become more at ease with getting older? The promise of heaven and knowing that we will live eternally is our peace.

For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the Lord.
Proverbs 8:35 English Standard Version

And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.
1 Peter 5:10 English Standard Version

The world will continue to scream how we need to hang onto our youth, but unless God does something unusual, we are marching toward death on Earth and there is no stopping the procession. No surgery, creams, divorces, or affairs will turn back the clock.

And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.
1 John 2:17 English Standard Version

Sticking with God is ultimately the only “fountain of youth.” Putting our hope in God is the way to life eternal.

“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison.”
2 Corinthians 4:17 English Standard Version

“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.”
Romans 8:18 English Standard Version

God sees us and He has a good plan for us. Our job is to trust His plan and obey Him.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11 English Standard Version

God’s plan for our life is perfect, even the part about aging. Trust God and He will carry us to the next phase of life in peace.
