Fragile Jars of Great Treasure

by Desiree Bustamante

Christ restores our brokenness and fills us with His beauty and purpose.

“We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
2 Corinthians 4:7 New Living Translation

In the Japanese art of kintsugi, broken pottery is repaired with lacquer and precious metal. Just because it’s cracked and broken, the vessel is not discarded but restored. What once seemed beyond repair can hold something precious again.

When we look at our lives and see mistakes we regret, wounds that still cause pain, or places where we feel broken, Jesus meets us there with grace and mercy. We do not have to mend ourselves before coming to Him. His scars from His sacrifice for our sins heals our brokenness. His grace restores us, not only for our own healing, but so we can share His love with others.

The restoration He gives us becomes the hope of Christ that we offer someone who is hurting. The mercy we receive allows us to encourage others who feel broken. Our weakness reminds us to depend on His power rather than our own. As we surrender both our wounds and our strengths, He shapes us into vessels that serve His purposes.

Our scars do not have to be hidden or erased for our lives to honor Him. God can use every part of our story, even our deepest wounds, to encourage and bless others. As we follow His leading, our lives can point people to the One who restores, redeems, and makes all things new. The treasure is His, but we are the fragile jars entrusted to carry it. May you trust him with your whole heart for healing and purpose to bring glory to His name.
