Daily Observations
Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all.
1 Chronicles 29:11, English Standard Version
We were driving eastward through the Nebraska Sandhills on Good Friday. This was our view for the greater portion of the morning. A beautifully-mesmerizing scene as we pondered the meaning of a day my daughter has dubbed “Bad Friday”.
I love when the sun beams like this, illuminating the sky with vibrant white clouds and silver linings. It feels like a small taste of heaven shining upon the earth– the tiniest glimpse of God and His glory. To live and experience all that God’s great creation has to offer us is truly a gift. I know it’s one that we all take for granted. But He’s gracious to remind us….
In the smile of a tiny baby,
The golden cast of a prairie sunset,
The love in a forgiving hug,
The crisp air and rewarding view atop a mountain trail,
A grateful heart after serving others,
A room filled with laughter,
The brilliant colors of spring…
If we stopped each day to name each little moment, we’d have notebooks filled. Everything and everyone we see was thoughtfully and wonderfully created by a majestic, great and loving God. As David so eloquently notes here in Chronicles, “all that is in the heavens and the earth is yours.” He is above all. His is the Kingdom.
Lord, thank you for the countless little glimpses of your majesty. Help us to be mindful of each interaction and experience you bless us with each day.
