Go and Wash!

“Go,” He told him, wash in the pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”).  So the man went and washed, and came home seeing.”
John 9:7 New International Version

This is a picture of the current excavation of the pool of Siloam, the scene of the healing of the blind beggar by Jesus in John 9.  Jesus finds this man blind from birth and making mud with His spit and dirt smears it on the man’s eyes.  Then He tells the man to go and wash in the pool of Siloam.  When the man does this, his sight is restored!

What an amazing story of the compassion and power of our Lord Jesus!  But it is also an amazing story of the faith of a man who could not see.  Though he had never seen with his eyes, he believes Jesus when Jesus sends him to go and wash.  Later when questioned about what Jesus did, he expresses his faith this way, “One thing I do know.  I was blind but now I see!”  Like John Newton, the author of Amazing Grace said, “I was blind, but now I see!”

Perhaps you see perfectly well with your physical eyes, perhaps you have 20/20 vision, but if you don’t know Jesus as your Lord and Savior, you are spiritually blind.  To believe in Jesus, to be baptized into His name, to trust Him for salvation, is to have your heart and life enlightened in ways that far surpass anything else in this world.

You may not know your whole future, you may not even know what will happen tomorrow, but if you know Jesus, you can see into eternity, into heaven itself.  You can know your eternal future and see the heart of God!  For faith in Jesus shows you a Lord who has given you everything you will ever need.  Amen.
