“Oh, that I had wings like a dove;
then I would fly away and rest!
I would fly far away
to the quiet of the wilderness.”
Psalm 55:6-7 New Living Translation
Have you ever been in a beautiful place when not one person was around, where nature was perfectly still, and it was so quiet it surprised you?
That’s how it was in this valley. It was early winter, not much snow had fallen yet. The air was filled with silence, an eerie yet peaceful silence, far away from the technology-driven world and its noise of busyness, anxiety, and discord. It was refreshing to spend time with God in the stillness of His creation.
“Let all that I am wait quietly before God,
for my hope is in him.
He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will not be shaken.”
Psalm 62:4-6 New Living Translation
We long for peace in this broken and divisive world. Our only hope is in Him. We can’t always get away to an incredibly quiet place when the weight of life overtakes us, but we can close our eyes and call upon our Lord. He calls us to wait quietly before Him, for He wants to assure us that He loves us, He is trustworthy, and He is our protector. In Christ, our faith and hope will never be shaken.
“I wait quietly before God,
for my victory comes from him.”
Psalm 62:1 New Living Translation
