“And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts,
crying, ‘Abba! Father!’”
Galatians 4:6 English Standard Version
My husband and daughter travelled to Washington DC on an honor flight to assist military veterans as they visited various memorials and monuments throughout the area. This is a photo of the Air Force Memorial taken while standing in the middle looking upward.
The 270 foot high memorial has three asymmetrical arcs which soar toward the sky representing pioneers of flight and those that followed. The number three represents the Air Force core values of Integrity, Service and Excellence, as well as signifying the smallest number of elements needed to define and enclose a space. The spires are each a different height, causing the view of the memorial to be different from every vantage point.
I was raised by three different men who were each a father figure in my life. My biological father gave me breath and molded me during the younger years of my life. My first step-father came into my life and restructured tattered pieces with love and laughter. My current step-father encourages me and leads by example. All three personified father to me, yet each served a different purpose in my life as I grew.
How awesome it is to know that God, the Father and Creator, is also God the Son and Savior, as well as God the Spirit and Counselor. The three are one, yet each represents a separate integral role within our life.
God, the Creator, gave us life and the path to salvation so that we might be with him eternally. God, the Son, sacrificed himself to fulfill the promise made by the Father. God, the Spirit, is always with us to guide and sustain us through this life.
Today, and always, I am grateful for the three fathers who raised me, but I am eternally indebted to the one true triune God – the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
